Did you fall in love The Borgias and The Tudors? We are talking about the acclaimed TV series, not the actual historical figures. If so, you will also love Medici-Masters of Florence, a political and family drama set in Florence in the early 15th century, created by  Frank Spotnitz e Nicholas Meyer. The first episode will air on October 18 2016 on Rai1 and tivùsat, the Italian free satellite platform .

The Anglo-Italian TV series features eight episodes and was filmed in English. Yes, you got it right. In fact, Dustin Hoffman plays Giovanni di Bicci de’ Medici and the Scottish actor Richard Madden plays his son Cosimo de’ Medici. The cast also includes many Italian actors, such as Alessandro Preziosi, who plays the great architect Filippo Brunelleschi, and Miriam Leone. The British singer Skin, also former judge at X Factor Italia, created and played a song for the series, called Renaissance.

The Medici’s family history is pretty known, but if you do not remember it well, this is the right TV series to refresh your knowledge. The Florentine family, which counted three popes and two queens of France, is driven by money and ambition.

The Medici came to power at a time of great social and economic inequality, stated writer Frank Spotnitz to The Guardian. ‘They were great disrupters. Their banking practices led to the creation of a middle class, making them unimaginably wealthy’.

In fact, Cosimo finds himself leading his wealthy banking family when his father, Giovanni suddenly dies. When he passed away, Giovanni was one of the richest men in Florence.
